Navigation, Medical, and Extended Core Systems

The Expedition includes everything in the Scout and Trekker kits, then adds the pieces you need when a problem lasts more than a single unplanned night. On top of the Scout’s core survival tenets and Trekker’s problem-solving tools, it adds dedicated land navigation and a full medical module so you can manage direction and injuries, not just endure them.

Navigation is handled by the MiniComp II compass and pacer beads, giving you a reliable bearing and a way to track distance when phones and GPS units are dead or unavailable. Medical capability is expanded with the Nick Fixer first-aid kit, built for real backcountry problems: wound cleaning and coverage, burn treatment, closures, blister care, support wraps, basic meds for pain, GI issues, and stings, plus gloves and tools. A HotHands warmer supports that medical system by helping maintain warmth and circulation in cold conditions.

The Expedition also extends the core systems you already have:

  • Water: a clear transpiration bag lets you produce drinkable water from vegetation in dry terrain instead of relying only on streams or pools.
  • Light / Signal: two 4" Cyalume chem lights provide cold-proof, waterproof lighting and route/shelter marking that still work in wet, smoky, or confined conditions where electronics struggle.

Contents

  • Scout and Trekker kits
Includes all components of the Scout and Trekker (water, shelter, fire, light, and signal tools).
  • Clear transpiration bag
Harvest drinkable water from green vegetation when there’s no surface source—no pump, no fuel, no electronics, just sun and time.
  • MiniComp II compass
Simple, durable analog compass for bearings and deliberate movement when phones and GPS units are dead, frozen, or gone.
  • Pacer beads
Classic pace counter so you can track distance, hold a search pattern, or work back along your route instead of wandering.
  • Two 4" Cyalume chem lights
Military-standard chemical light sticks: cold-proof, waterproof, and battery-free. Use them to mark shelter, hang as low-glare area light, clip to gear for ID, or swing as a bright moving signal in rain, fog, steam, or smoke.
  • HotHands warmer
Long, steady heat to keep hands functional, support core warmth, or protect batteries from cold-related voltage drop.
  • Rescue Essentials “Nick Fixer” first-aid kit
A compact but real medical kit: bleeding control, wound care, blister/burn treatment, basic meds, tools, and PPE so you can actually treat problems instead of just covering them.

Xylimelts
Scent Name: Berry, Size: 40 Count (Pack of 1)
"Xylimelts - I have dry mouth from what I thought was a new medication. I stopped the medication about two weeks ago and it has not improved. I am continuing to use these until I follow up with my doctor. At first I tried these using one disk and it did not seem to work. I tried them again using two and it works a lot better. So, I now use these two disks at a time. If I use them at night, they seem to last about 4 hours. If i use them during the day, they last about 30 minutes. The effects do not last all that long during the day but I do also use Act lemon lozenges. The package says that you can put them on the gums but I put them on the roof of my mouth. I have had no issues getting any of them to stick. Flavors - At my local stores the only flavor is mint. It is way too strong. Using the mint ones would irritate my mouth after a while. Unfortunately, that seems to be the only flavor that most dry mouth products are.....mint. So my quest began to locate products that are not mint. I found these here on Amazon. They come in multiple flavors. Here is my breakdown of the flavors and my thoughts on each. Mild mint (4*) - Better than the regular mint but still mint. It is as described and the mint is not as strong. Slightly Sweet (5*) - Probably my favorite alternative to the mint. They are exactly as described. The have a slightly sweet flavor. It is not overwhelming. Berry (5*) - This was a nice change. It again is a slight berry flavor. Not overpowering or overwhelming. Cinnamon (1*) - This is probably my least favorite. The flavor was ok (it tastes like a very mild fireball) but it didn't seem to lubricate very much and after it was gone it felt like my mouth was drier than before. Orange (4*) - It has a pleasant orange flavor. Sensitive/unflavored - I have not tried this one yet. I probably will not. The reviews of the change in adhesive makes me leary to try it."

Mostly works, but..........
I use these at night for sleeping with a CPAP. I am a mouth breather, so my CPAP mask is a full face mask, thus there is constant airflow going into my mouth all night long. While these tablets do help with reducing dry mouth, they only last about 4-5 hrs before they fully dissolve - which does not get me through a full night of sleep. Using two tablets instead of one only gives me roughly one additional hour. If you wear a CPAP mask, you also need to be careful of exactly where you place the tablets, because it will be quite uncomfortable if you mask ends up pressing on the tablet. If the tablet does not adhere well upon initial placement, you pretty much need to fully dry the tablet before re-attempting placement. If the brown side is already wet when you place it against your gums, there is a much higher chance of it just sliding off, instead of sticking. Overall, while not completely eliminating the issue, they do at least reduce the dry mouth problem during sleep.

Stays put and dissolves slowly. Orange flavor is nice.
If you have to use something overnight for dry mouth definitely get these. I use one nightly with my mouth guard. The orange flavor is very nice and it dissolves slowly overnight. It's small enough to do the trick, but not be overpowering. It stays put. And it works. Definitely notice the improvement inside my mouth.

This is a seminal book on psychotherapy. A must have!
Format: Hardcover
In the age of virtual (dis)connection, concerning high rates of depression and anxiety, and the importance of self-reliance and individualism, this book comes as a lighthouse of hope and direction. Attachment Theory in Practice is a must-have for any therapist who is looking to deepen their work and bring desired transformation and change to their clients’ lives. The book provides a beautiful overview of the current state of the mental health field and the need for focusing on emotion, attachment and connection in psychotherapy. Dr. Johnson reminds us that “in order to shape optimal regulation that allows clients to harness their emotions for growth and aliveness, therapists have to ensure that clients are actively engaged with an emotional reality.” She echoes the findings from research on emotion regulation and suggests that “coregulation, rather than solo self-regulation, is the baseline, normal, and most-efficient strategy for us as social animals.” Dr. Jonson clearly posits that change is an emotional and an interpersonal phenomenon. The book also outlines very practical guidance to working with couples, individuals, and families using the the attachment framework and EFT. As a therapist who is interested in science and empiricism, I am delighted to see the tremendous amount of research support EFT for couples has received over the past decade and I look forward to learning more about the findings in the areas of EFIT and EFFT.

A Foundational Book in EFT
Format: Hardcover
In a field of books about EFT, Sue Johnson’s new book provides an up-to-date summary of the latest developments in the EFT method, including applications for individual, couple and family therapy. Having been a student of EFT for 12 years or more, this book was more than a repetition of the fundamentals of the method, its stages and steps, which appear in her earlier books and have been elaborated by other authors. Here, I found her efforts to situate EFT conceptually in the field of psychotherapy, not only its attitude toward defining health and distress, but the underlying principles for its attitude toward how change occurs and its unique principles for how therapists help clients (individual, couple or family) foster change in themselves and their lives. She explains and illustrates the use of the EFT Tango moves, which implement the EFT method within the clinical dialogue and actualize the change process. No doubt, this book will become a primary source for future EFT training and is worth both reading and mastering cover-to-cover.
